Japanese cooks prepare hearty dishes like shabu shabu and sukiyaki using a Japanese clay pot, or donabe, which is known for its ability to distribute heat evenly and keep dishes bubbling hot. To make a hearty meal with a Japanese clay pot, simply add a base broth like fish or chicken stock and combine with an assortment of meat and vegetables. With little effort, a delicious meal will be ready to serve in no time.

This Japanese clay pot is dark brown, with light brown and white on the bottom, rim and handles. Its lid is detailed with smooth-finished maple leaves in white. Prepare your favorite Asian and non-Asian soups and stew in this donabe, which means "pot" in Japanese, that doubles as an attractive serving dish for yoru dining table. Dishwasher and microwave safe, and packaged in a paper gift box. Made in Japan.

I love eating anything nabe and love it even more whenever I cook food in this nabe pot. This pot is so pretty, sturdy and extremely great quality. One thing you have to remember is never use it without any liquid in it. Mine is slightly burnt at the bottom because I started cooking it without any liquid in it.

I always bring it to the table with the lid on and keep it on until we are ready to start. It looks great on the table. Oh, I have also used it with a warmer at the bottom so I can cook food on the table.

I am just so happy to have bought it. LOVE IT.

    Gorgeous donabe!

I searched high and low for the perfect donabe, and this is it. I bought this for myself and have not been disappointed. It is beautiful and great quality, and cooks beautifully. The only negative is that it's not available in a larger size, which I would have purchased. This size holds about 1.5 quarts - but I absolutely love it! My new favorite piece of cookware.

    • Gorgeous, high-quality, cooks beautifully

    • Not available in larger sizes

    I love my new donabe!

I did a TON of internet research to find the perfect donabe for me, and this is the one I decided on. I love the natural looking finish and colors, and it looks even better in person. And it cooks really well (I have an electric coil stove and don't use a diffuser). The only bummer is that it's not available in larger sizes - I would have preferred a slightly bigger one and would have also purchased a 12" for my sister as a gift if it were available. Even so, I LOVE my new donabe and am looking forward to many years of great meals from it.
    Pros
    • Beautiful, solid, well-made, cooks really well
    Cons
    • Larger sizes not available
