Whether it's a damp spring night or a cold winter night, nothing cuts through the chill like a delicious hearty stew, especially one that's been prepared in an earthen Donabe clay pot. Earthen Donabe clay pot are durable, versatile, attractive and convenient. They offer the option of stovetop, oven or microwave cooking, and can go straight to the table as a one pot meal to minimize cleanups.
This ceramic Donabe pot takes on an "anything goes" approach with its assorted designs, which include flowering branches of cherry blossoms and green and beige patchwork. When a newly earthen donabe clay pot is first purchased, it is recommended to season the pot as the clay is very porous and needs to be sealed. The simplest way to do so is by making unseasoned rice porridge in the pot, which will help seal, the microscopic holes inside. Be sure to never heat up the pot while the outside is wet and to always make sure to have liquid inside or you may risk damaging the pot. The donabe pots also require to be slowly heated, so starting with low heat then gradually raising the temperature is recommended to prevent the pot from being damaged. After being used, make sure the donabe pot is completely dry to prevent mold from growing on it. Made in China.
