Japanese donabe pots are traditionally used to make hearty Japanese-style miso and vegetable stews. These Japanese donabe pots can also be used when making shabu shabu at home as well, but that doesn’t mean that they can only be used for Japanese recipes.
Donabe pots are a perfect pot to make any kind of hearty soup or stew. They are also great for making delicious porridge as well. With a porous bottom and inside, these Japanese donabe pots soak in the delicious flavors of any meal, giving it a more hearty taste for your dishes. When first purchasing a donabe pot, it is recommended to season the pot by making a simple porridge to help fill in the microscopic porous holes inside the pot. Simply make an unflavored rice porridge and allow to simmer on low heat for about an hour to ensure that the donabe is seasoned. It is also wise to never use the donabe pot when it is wet on the outside and to always start with low heat then gradually raising the heat to cook.
Donabe pots should never be heated without a liquid inside, so it is recommended to not use a donabe pot with oil based cooking like frying. This smooth-glazed donabe pot features a pattern of graceful blue lines on the lid and top half of the pot. Measuring 7" across, this Blue-Lines donabe pot is perfect for serving 1-2 people and would make a great gift for anyone who loves stews and soups. Made in Japan.
