are famous for their labor-intensive production method and have been in production in the Fukui prefecture in Japan since the Edo period.
Wakasa Japanese lacquered chopsticks are made by layer upon layers of lacquer, sometimes as many as fifty layers are found on a single pair of chopsticks. Design is created by polishing or carving the lacquer layers.
