Lucky Japanese White Daruma Doll

Made in Japan and crafted from paper mache, this white daruma doll is a unique way to bring a bit of luck and encouragement to friends and loved ones.

Daruma dolls are popular in Japan and are said to be modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of the Zen sect of Buddhism in Japan. Daruma dolls are seen as a lucky talisman and a symbolism of perseverance in Japan.

Their round shape are said to be a symbol for picking oneself up after facing an obstacle. Many daruma dolls are roly-poly toys in Japan that come back upright after being knocked down.

Daruma dolls also typically have both eyes left unpainted. Upon setting a goal, one paints in one eye of the white daruma doll. When that goal has been accomplished, the second eye can then be painted in. It is believed that upon giving the daruma doll his full sight, one’s wish will be granted.

This small white daruma doll is in white-a color that signifies harmony, and has the inscriptions welcoming luck on its belly, and "welcoming wealth and luck" in gold on the side.

Perfect wedding favors!

I bought several of the white Daruma dolls to give out as wedding favors at my son's wedding (Japanese wife). I used a gold paint pen to write their names and the wedding date on the back of each doll. I also held up the doll and told the assembly about "fall down seven times, stand up eight," and how it was not only a good life philosophy, it was a particularly excellent one for marriage, and told everyone I chose the color white for love and harmony. The dolls were beautifully made and, the individual cellophane wrapping was fantastic to protect them, and the colorfully twist-ties holding the cellophane closed were even pretty. I liked that an information leaflet was included with each one. It really made a special addition to the wedding!

My Teenage Stepson is infatuated with Japan and the Japanese culture so this was bought in addition to a couple other items and he loved it. If you don't know what these are, they are to bring good luck and are normally used at the start of an event, project etc. you fill in one eye and then when the event or project is complete you fill in the other for good luck. He loved the idea and will be saving this one if he ever gets the chance to travel to Japan. Thank you Mrs Lins for good products and excellent service.
