Colored to resemble a naturally formed lagoon, the plate starts with a deep cerulean at its center, which fades into a light turquoise color as it nears the rim. Taking on more greenish hues, the color eventually fades from a light yellow to a dark orange as it reaches the unglazed metallic silver at the plate’s rim. The whole inner portion of this Japanese dinner plate is finished with a smooth, glossy glaze, and its luster makes it similar to ocean water reflecting the sun. To add to this, the plate’s interior looks as though it has been fractured and carefully glued back together, like pieces in a mosaic.

The entire exterior of this plate is unglazed, giving it a matte texture for added grip and better hold. On the underside of this Japanese dinner plate, the silvery color of the rim fades to an earthen brown, and eventually lightens up to showcase the orange-tinted cream white of the original ceramic.
